October 19, 2011–The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Northeast Wisconsin Chapter will recognize outstanding area philanthropists at its 18th annual National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) luncheon on November 9 at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer will emcee the luncheon, which will begin at noon. More than 200 people are expected to attend the NPD luncheon, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their contributions to countless charities and causes in northeast Wisconsin. The luncheon will be preceded by an educational workshop for area fundraisers.

2011 NPD award recipients include J. J. Keller Family, Outstanding Lifetime Philanthropy Award; Dewey Carl and Sue Olmsted, Outstanding Philanthropist Award; Rick Chernick, Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award; Miller Electric, Outstanding Corporation Award; The Avenue 91.1 and WBAY-TV2, Outstanding Media/Marketing Partner Award; Cal Husmann, Northeast Wisconsin Professional Fundraiser of the Year Award; Marinette & Menominee Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee and United Way Fox Cities Youth Board, Youth in Philanthropy Award.

The workshop begins at 8:00 a.m., and the cost is $60 per person for AFP members, and $70 per person for non-AFP members (includes lunch). Attendees will be able to choose from a variety of topics over the course of the morning. Among the speakers are Marc Dosogne, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh; Stan Kocos, Extended Learning Coordinator, Green Bay Area Public School District; Dr. Beverly Carmichael, Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement, UW-Green Bay Foundation; Sean Ryan, Race Director, Cellcom Green Bay Marathon; Randy Van Straten, Executive Director, Bellin Run; Sarah Bernstein, Director of Research and Prospect Management, Marquette University and Luke Brown, Director of Research and Advancement Operations, Lawrence University.

According to event co-chair Joseph Brooks, director of alumni and constituency engagement at Lawrence University, “National Philanthropy Day® is the special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities and our world. This year marks the 26th anniversary of this important day.”

The event has received sponsorship support from The Avenue 91.1, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Inc., Door County Community Foundation, Inc., Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and Thompson Photo Imagery.

The AFP represents 27,000 fundraisers in more than 180 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs. The Northeast Wisconsin Chapter fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.
