Arts Wisconsin: Seeks nominations for the 2011 “Arts in the Community” awards

Arts Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s voice for the arts and the premier statewide organization promoting, assisting, and speaking up for the arts, arts education, cultural tourism and creative economy throughout Wisconsin, announces the third annual Arts in the Community

awards, highlighting and promoting exemplary community-based support of and leadership for the arts in Wisconsin’s villages, towns and cities.

Nominations are currently being accepted, with a postmark or email deadline of August 1, 2011. Award recipients will be announced by September 1, 2011. Click here for more information and the nomination form.

Awards will be given to elected officials, businesspeople and civic leaders (preferably not a staff or board member or volunteer directly affiliated with an arts organization) who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to and championship for the arts in their communities. Nominees should demonstrate ongoing commitment to the arts through local and regional business and government leaders; broad, diverse community support, and creative approaches to integrating the arts with civic strategies.

The awards will be presented to honorees at their affiliated statewide government association conferences. At least two awards will be given, to an individual from a community with a population of over 20,000, and to an individual from a community with a population under 20,000. The Arts in the Community awards are unique works of glass art designed and created by Matthew Heindl of Maatwerk Studio in Blue Mounds, WI.

Arts Wisconsin’s mission, to speak up, advocate for, and advance the arts, creativity and culture throughout Wisconsin, connects and serves the wide-ranging, diverse and creative constituency of people, organizations and communities making the arts come alive in every corner of Wisconsin.

The League of Wisconsin Municipalities is a voluntary nonprofit and nonpartisan association of cities and villages that acts as an information clearinghouse, lobbying organization and legal resource for Wisconsin municipalities.

The Wisconsin Towns Association (WTA) is a statewide, voluntary, non-profit and non-partisan association of member town and village governments in the State of Wisconsin controlled by its Board of Directors. WTA’s purposes are to support local control of government and to protect the interest of towns. WTA provides its members with legislative lobbying efforts, educational programs and legal information.
