AG Van Hollen: Obtains judgment agains United Ethanol, LLC, for violations of air pollution rules

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that his office has obtained judgment on a civil complaint filed against United Ethanol, LLC, a domestic limited liability company in Rock County.

The civil complaint, filed in Rock County Circuit Court on October 28, 2011, alleges fifteen violations of Wisconsin air pollution laws, specifically that United Ethanol exceeded the air emission limits of its permit and failed to install, operate and maintain air pollution control equipment.

The ethanol production company has agreed to pay $700,000 in combined forfeitures and penalties, and to hire a qualified independent environmental consultant with the expertise to conduct a full facility environmental compliance audit in compliance with Wisconsin law.
