Former Executive Director to Assist with Special Projects

Milwaukee, WI, October 3, 2011: Less than one week after publicizing the historic Agreement with the Milwaukee Inner City Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH) to increase economic opportunities for its members, the African American Chamber of Commerce announced today that Mr. Curt Harris – a Milwaukee icon and perhaps the best known advocate for African American businesses in the community for the last 40 years, will be stepping down as the organization’s Executive Director.

“Mr. Harris is an untiring advocate for Black economic development. In fact he helped me transition out of Corporate America when I decided to leave my Fortune 100 employer in the 80’s while he served as the Executive Director of the federally funded MBDA [Minority Business Development Agency],” said Randy Crump, Chairman of the African American Chamber of Commerce. “I have nothing but respect for Curt’s passion and desire to help others and share his knowledge and experiences with would be entrepreneurs. No one has more successful experience working with small businesses in metro Milwaukee than Curt Harris and we’ve been lucky to have him all these years.”

In addition to the Certified Professional Grade Contractor program — done in collaboration with MICAH, the African American Chamber has numerous, yet to be announced initiatives cued up to be unveiled over the next 12 months. In his new role as Executive Director – Emeritus, the Chamber is pleased to announce that Mr. Harris will be working with the Board Chair and select Chamber committees to see these initiatives through to their successful launch and beyond. Gloria Miller – Chief Administrator with the Chamber, will continue to oversee administrative operations.
