December 7, 2010 – JBS Green Bay (Formerly Packerland Packing) will be one of several Wisconsin firms to receive the first Green Master awards during the Third Annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council conference in Neenah on December 8, 2010.

“We’re excited to recognize JBS Green Bay as one of the first Green Masters award recipients,” remarked Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainability Council, “Food processing and manufacturing is a key area for future growth in sustainability.”

JBS Green Bay is ISO 14001 certified and a long-timer participant in Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program. Beloit-Based Manufacturer Among First Wisconsin Firms to Earn Honor

Dec. 7, 2010 – Frito-Lay Beloit will be among the first Wisconsin firms to receive the Green Master award during the Third Annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council conference in Neenah on Dec. 8, 2010.

“Frito-Lay Beloit has consistently committed itself to sustainable initiatives,” according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainable Business Council. “From retro-fitting the existing Beloit facility for LEED Gold certification, to reducing solid waste by 99 percent, they are a good example of how a firm can implement sustainable business practices that support both environmental and production goals.”

Frito-Lay Beloit has earned a number of environmental and sustainability awards over the past three years and is a recognized leader in the food manufacturing industry. The facility employs more than 500 people on its Beloit-based campus.

“It’s exciting to see MillerCoors rewarded for its involvement in sustainability,” according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainable Business Council, “They are among the only companies that have included water, energy and carbon, packaging, and the implementation of a zero waste policy. FVTC One of First Wisconsin Firms to be Awarded Honor

December 7, 2010 – Fox Valley Technical College, will be one of several Wisconsin firms to receive the first Green Masters award during the Third Annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council conference in Neenah on December 8, 2010.

“Fox Valley Technical College is the first educational institution to earn the Green Masters award,” according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “We’re happy to see an educational organization lead by example through incorporating innovative sustainability practices into its daily routine.”

Fox Valley Technical College has undertaken a number of sustainability projects both inside and outside the classroom. The school organized an energy committee dedicated to reducing overall energy consumption, introduced water quality courses in its curriculum and started a green bike program which makes bicycles available for use by students and faculty.

December 7, 2010 – Serigraph, will be one of several Wisconsin firms to receive the first Green Masters award during the Third Annual Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council conference in Neenah on December 8, 2010.

“Serigraph was one of the first printers to participate in the WI Department of Natural Resources Green Tier program,” according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. “We are excited that they have also chosen to join the Green Masters Program, and achieving the Masters designation is a significant achievement. We’re excited to recognize their sustainability leadership in an industry that can have a critical impact on environmental quality.”

Serigraph has undertaken a number of sustainability projects including reducing water usage by 65 percent, using innovative heat exchangers to conserve 450,000 kilowatts per year and inventing the first large-scale biofilter for the printing industry as part of efforts to remove petro-chemicals from ink. Several of Serigraph’s executives and managers volunteer in leadership positions with Wisconsin Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, Partners for Clean Air, and 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.

“Appleton’s employees are the engine driving its sustainability progress, and environmental stewardship is a priority ingrained in Appleton’s culture,” said Pam Barker, executive director of environmental health and product safety for Appleton Papers. Appleton Papers employs 2,000 people and is 100 percent employee owned. Appleton was founded in 1907 and now has manufacturing operations in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. “Since 2008, Appleton, one of the first paper companies to measure its carbon footprint, has decreased that footprint by 3.5 percent,” Barker noted.
