MADISON, Wis. (Feb. 1, 2010) – Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC), a national leader in the design and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, is pleased to announce the appointment of Monica Curtis as director of Planning, Research, and Analysis.

“It is with great pleasure we announce the appointment of Monica Curtis as WECC’s new director of Planning, Research, and Analysis,” said Mary Woolsey Schlaefer, executive director for WECC. “We are continuing to invest in research and development to foster the innovation needed to continue to introduce new approaches that deliver increased energy savings. Monica has extensive experience leading utility demand-side management programs in both residential and commercial markets. Her breadth of experience coupled with her expertise and innovative insights in program design, evaluation, and market research make her a perfect candidate to lead WECC’s research and development activities.”

In her new role, Curtis will be responsible for the development of new program initiatives, and will help identify and implement strategies to increase innovation in WECC’s programs and services. She will also direct the development of research and evaluation activities, and play a role in the organization’s energy policy efforts.

Curtis brings nearly 20 years of management experience – most recently with SaskPower in Canada – to WECC across a number of important disciplines including demand-side management, program planning, program evaluation, product management, market research, and customer communications. Her experience crosses over a breadth of markets including industrial, commercial, residential, and renewable.

“I am excited to join the WECC team and work alongside a great community of energy efficiency professionals,” Curtis said. “As a long-time supporter of forward-thinking energy efficiency practices, I am eager to help WECC continue to lead in energy efficiency initiatives and the use of renewable energy resources to help residents and businesses lessen their impact on the environment and save money.”

While with SaskPower, Curtis was manager of Demand-Side Management. In that role, she led a team of 24 individuals responsible for the development and implementation of SaskPower’s demand-side management and market transformation programs. Prior to SaskPower, Curtis was a project manager at EPCOR located in Edmonton, Canada – leading several elements of product management, market research, and customer communications.

Curtis is currently a member of Esource. Previous board work included the Saskatchewan Science Centre, Canadian Electrical Association, and the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition. She earned a Bachelor’s of Human Ecology in 1986 from the University of Manitoba and later received an MBA from Athabasca University in Alberta in 2002. Curtis has special interest in strategic and program planning with certifications in business process and change management practices.
