— Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a new law aimed at protecting children from exposure to the chemical bisphenol-A, also known as BPA.

Doyle said the evidence against BPA — which some studies have shown to have harmful effects on children during critical stages of development — is “overwhelming.”

“I know that there is some debate,” Doyle said. “It seems to me that if there’s a question on this, the balance we should really strike (is) on the side of making sure that we protect the safety of our children.”

— Doyle and Commerce Secretary Richard J. Leinenkugel welcomed officials from Anhui Province, China who are visiting Wisconsin to learn more about the state’s strengths in water technology.

Wisconsin and Anhui Province have agreed to work together to share ideas and look for opportunities for Wisconsin companies to participate in Anhui’s water-related projects.

— A series of eighteen job fairs for veterans are planned across Wisconsin from this month through October.

Three state departments are teaming up with the American Legion to host the job fairs, which will be attended by employment agencies and employers.

There will also be assistance for veterans who want help updating their resumes, improving their job interview skills or getting benefit information.

The job fairs start March 11 in Madison and end on October 15 in Superior. In between those two fairs, there are stops scheduled for cities like Chippewa Falls, Kenosha, Janesville, Green Bay, Wausau and Oshkosh.
