Sheboygan Co. Economic Development Corp.: Retention effort for DFA a result of local cooperation

Plymouth, WI – The recent approval of local assistance from the City of Plymouth and the State of Wisconsin to support Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.’s (DFA) investment in machinery and continued operations in Plymouth was a coordinated effort between many project partners. The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) worked closely with DFA officials and their tax advisory and consulting firm, Ryan, the City of Plymouth, Wisconsin Department of Commerce, Lakeshore Technical College, and others to arrive at a meaningful assistance package which met the needs of the company and will likely result in DFA’s continued operations in Sheboygan County.

According to Christopher J. Girod, Director at Ryan, “This was one of the best efforts I’ve ever experienced in terms of state and local economic development and government representatives collaboratively working together toward a common goal to achieve a positive economic result.  The project partners all definitely deserve a round of applause.”

According to Patrick Drinan, Executive Director of the SCEDC, “We were pleased to work with DFA, their tax advisors, and the other project partners to create an incentive package that is expected to result in the retention of 357 high-paying jobs in Plymouth, and investment of approximately $13 million towards new equipment and more efficient operations at DFA’s local facility. I commend the State of Wisconsin, City of Plymouth, and Lakeshore Technical College for their positive actions taken to support this major local employer, and look forward to working with company officials to accommodate the company’s continued investment in Sheboygan County for years to come.”

“This was an extremely important process, not only for DFA and the City of Plymouth, but also for the SCEDC,” said Gary Dulmes, SCEDC Chairman. “It is important to recognize that the SCEDC is focusing its efforts on retaining existing employers in all parts of Sheboygan County, in addition to promoting development opportunities and attracting new investment and job creation.”

Brian Yerges, the City of Plymouth’s Director of City Services said, “It was great to see the cooperative efforts of the SCEDC, Plymouth Common Council, and the State of Wisconsin in putting together a competitive package. Once the final agreements are signed by DFA, Plymouth, and the State, the project can move forward in 2011 with DFA’s new investment in Plymouth and the retention of 357 jobs for area residents.”
