The Midwest Food Processors Association (MWFPA) is offering up to six $1,500 scholarships to undergraduate students who are majoring in agriculture or food science at UW-Madison, UW-Platteville and UW-River Falls.

“The MWFPA recognizes the vital role played by agriculture and the food processing industry in Wisconsin’s economy,” said MWFPA president Nick George. “These scholarships help students to continue their education and support the growth of these two major Wisconsin industries.”

The six scholarships are offered under two programs created by the MWFPA in honor of leaders in the food processing industry. The Kenneth G. Weckel Scholarship is named for a University of Wisconsin food science professor who contributed greatly to the advancement of vegetable and fruit processing through his research and teaching. The other scholarship is named for Carleton A. Friday whose family founded the Friday Canning Company of New Richmond, Wisconsin.

Applications are available through May and can be obtained in the campus guidance office, agriculture department office, or from the MWFPA by calling 608-255-9946 or the going to its website at http://www.mwfpa.org. Applications are due June 14th. Scholarships will be awarded on or around August 1st.
