MILWAUKEE, WI – (August 2010)

Historic Milwaukee Inc. (HMI) is thrilled to announce the 2010 Remarkable Milwaukee honoree is Johnson Controls, Inc. Johnson Controls will accept this award at the 4th annual Remarkable Milwaukee event Monday, October 18th.

This year celebrates the company’s 125th anniversary milestone, and there truly is a compelling story to tell. Johnson Control’s legacy and innovations are intrinsically connected to Milwaukee’s heritage and the built environment world over.

The event will be hosted in the historic Imperial Ballroom at the Pfister Hotel, a building which Johnson Controls outfitted with temperature control systems in 1893. At 4:00pm and 4:45pm, Johnson Controls will host exclusive tours of their worldwide Headquarters for building efficiency for a limited number of event attendees. Other key features of the evening include: art and history tours of the Pfister, a silent auction, hor d’oeuvres reception, an audio-visual presentation by nationally renowned design firm Aurum Design, and featuring guest speaker Dave Myers, President of Building Efficiency at Johnson Controls.

HMI views our built environment as an important part of our community’s ability to attract talent, as a significant factor in branding Milwaukee as an attractive urban environment in which to live, and as a crucial component of our commitment to sustainability. It is well documented that the environmental impact of our buildings is significant, and Johnson Controls has been an innovator in building efficiencies for 125 years.

Johnson Control’s headquarters of building efficiency is right here in Milwaukee – an historic 1901 building which became one of the first LEED-certified buildings in the world. Right now the connection between green building, sustainability, and preservation is an important issue. The bright minds at Johnson Controls are leading the way in finding economically sustainable solutions to preserving our built heritage and natural environment.

Each year the Remarkable Milwaukee honor is given to one organization that has a strong history in Milwaukee and has made an exemplary contribution to Milwaukee’s built environment. Johnson Control’s history and accomplishments will be highlighted for one year through HMI’s events and programs, and their Milwaukee employees may attend any HMI Walking Tour at no charge for an entire year. The Remarkable Milwaukee Event launches this year of engagement with Johnson Controls, and is a chance to celebrate their history with the HMI Community.

Past honorees have included Northwestern Mutual, Zilber Corporation, The Pfister Hotel and Marcus Corporation.

Historic Milwaukee does an incredible job of raising awareness in the community about Milwaukee’s history, architecture and the preservation of the environment that has been built in our city.
