MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle today announced that the City of Princeton, Green Lake County, will receive a $137,000 Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to help reimburse expenses in the construction of a retail store.

“Brownfield grants are an excellent tool to help revitalize contaminated properties while creating opportunities for future construction projects and job growth,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased we could assist this new company in its efforts to return a vacant site into productive use, creating jobs and new investment for the City of Princeton.”

The City of Princeton and developer DGI-Princeton, LLC, have purchased a 5.7 acre redevelopment site for the construction of a 9,100-sq.-ft. retail facility for a new Dollar General Store. BEBR funds will allow the city to remove 2,412 tons of soil at the construction site. Total investment is $1.8 million and creates three positions for residents in the area.

Commerce’s BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by contamination.
