Project to Help Create 88 Jobs
MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle announced that a $250,000 Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant has been awarded to the village of Baldwin in St. Croix County. The award provides the state’s contribution toward helping J & C Trucking relocate from Minnesota to Wisconsin and directly and indirectly create 88 jobs in the community.
“Investing in quality transportation is vital for businesses that are looking to expand in Wisconsin,” Governor Doyle said. “By providing these funds, we are bringing quality jobs to Wisconsin while providing road access to J & C Trucking’s new headquarters in Baldwin’s new business park.”
The $250,000 grant covers half of the cost of designing and constructing two new municipal streets. The street will improve access to the firm’s new facilities in the Baldwin business park. The village of Baldwin is contributing $252,330 to meet the local matching fund requirements of the program. The transportation improvement project has a total cost of $502,340.
J & C Trucking is investing $851,000 to construct a 6,000-square-foot maintenance and logistics shop and a 3,000-square-foot office building. J & C Trucking is completely transferring and expanding their Minnesota-based trucking and business operations to be more centrally located to their customers. The firm trucks products such as silica sand for the natural gas drilling industry and Portland cement to customers in Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. As a result of this investment, nearly $4.8 million in annual wages will be created in Wisconsin.
Since it was created in 1987, the TEA grant program has invested more than $82 million in 303 projects benefiting 329 businesses and creating 71,125 jobs in Wisconsin.
