Good for Business, a communications company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, designed the 2010 Hillary Institute Award.

The award reflects the Hillary Institute logo and identity, also developed by Good for Business. The award consists of two glass ‘mountains’ and a square pounamu (green stone) situated at the ‘peak’. The stone represents the apex of leadership and the ‘Hillary Step’ from when Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mt. Everest.

This year’s Award is being presented to Peggy Liu for her exceptional leadership in Climate Change.

Ms Liu is the Institute’s second international annual Laureate, following Jeremy Leggett in 2009, renowned author and Chair of Solar Century, the UK’s leading solar provider.

Based in Shanghai with offices in Beijing and Washington DC, Peggy is Chairperson of JUCCCE (Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy), China’s leading Non-Profit dedicated to changing the way China creates and uses energy. JUCCCE has a 10-year mandate to visibly accelerate the practical application of green technologies.

Ms. Liu notes: We believe that due to climate change timelines and China’s development timelines, the next 5-8 years are a crucial window where we must achieve dramatic and systemic change in human behavior towards a more sustainable balance between society and nature. That’s why each of our programs is designed to be a game-changer and have a visible milestone within three years”.

Internationally recognized for their work, JUCCCE collaborates across borders and sectors to showcase readily deployable energy smart solutions for China. It helps these solutions scale across China by leveraging government channels to reach key energy decision makers– mayors, industry executives and consumers.

Honored as a Time Magazine Hero of the Environment (2008) and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (2009). Peggy was an adviser to the Clinton Global Initiative (2008) on Energy & Climate Change. Most recently she was COO of Mustang Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund in Shanghai. Peggy, an active alumna of MIT, organized the MIT Forum on the Future of Energy in China 2007 from which JUCCCE was formed. In the 1990’s she was on the cover of “Red Herring Hits” as an Internet pioneer in Silicon Valley. She was also a McKinsey & Co. management consultant. Peggy is Chinese-American and resides in Shanghai. She has a B.S. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She has been in non-profit leadership positions for most of her life and has a passion for making the world a better place.

“This is a bold and exciting decision by our governors from a global watch-list of 50 exceptional mid-career nominee’s world-wide” says Executive Director Mark Prain. “The Institute is looking forward to working with Peggy both in her home country and in the US, and bringing her down to New Zealand to lead our 2010 Annual Symposium in the Spring.” Jim Armstrong, Founder and Creative Director of Good For Business, states “We are honored be again be selected to actually design the Hillary Laureate Award. The award is a physical symbol of the Institute’s purpose of recognizing, rewarding and nurturing great leadership – the kind of leadership that will result in a healthier planet and people.” Good For Business serves local, national and international clients.
