GLTEI: Thursday workshop publicly launches Great Lakes Transportation Enterprise Institute

GLTEI to Nurture Alliances Among Wisconsin Enterprises to Advance Innovation, Safety and Job Creation in Road Transportation

MILWAUKEE — The inaugural workshop of the Great Lakes Transportation Enterprise Institute (GLTEI) will take place Thursday, March 4, 2010.

The event aims to guide the creation of transportation research and development partnerships in Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. Speakers and panels will identify opportunities for collaboration to develop new products, technologies and systems that will promote transportation innovation, highway safety, green technologies and work-force sustainability.

“Innovations in transportation can strengthen Wisconsin’s economy and create jobs” said Rick Bergholz, President of the Board of GLTEI and CEO of Traffic & Parking Control, Inc. (TAPCO). “Wisconsin and our neighboring states offer an array of incredible resources to address urgent needs in transportation and economic development. This workshop will be the first step in aligning those resources to compete in this area.”

“Transportation creates jobs through infrastructure enhancements, production of transportation management technology, and the expansion of freight and logistics services,” commented John Corbin, a Board Member of GLTEI and the State Traffic Engineer of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. “Better dialog between the public and private sector, including the university community which has so much to offer in terms of research into safety improvements and initiatives in sustainable resources, will yield meaningful benefits to the state and region.”

This inaugural workshop will take place at the TAPCO offices, 5100 W. Brown Deer Road in Brown Deer, Wisconsin beginning at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 4.
