Firm’s Budget Management Tool Delivers New Approach to Predictable Pricing and Legal Spend

Chicago – InformationWeek has announced that Foley & Lardner LLP made this year’s InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. The firm was ranked among the top 200 companies on this prestigious list.

“This year our recognition is due in large part to our budget management tool, designed to benefit our clients by providing real time information to both our attorneys and clients to manage legal projects and budgets, deliver predictable pricing, and promote the collaborative development and tracking of budgets with our clients,” said James R. Kalyvas, chair of the firm’s Information Technology & Outsourcing Practice and one of the lead business representatives in the development of this tool. “We are pleased to have received this coveted award as it illustrates our ongoing commitment to addressing our clients needs and creating business value through innovative information technology.”

The Foley budget management tool is a technology developed by the firm that delivers budget analysis and reports on demand to Foley attorneys and clients. It allows users to track actual fees and expenses at any stage in a project and creates graphical reports comparing actual performance against budget estimates, thus eliminating billing surprises. This tool provides the data and reports that allow attorneys to more proactively manage legal projects, and greatly enhances collaboration with clients to ensure expectations are aligned.

The Foley budget management tool is just one of the firm’s technology-based solutions that promotes greater collaboration between attorneys and clients. Another such tool is FOLEY ClientSuite, a dedicated Web site that allows clients to track and manage matters while also acting as a repository for case files and other information.

“The budget management tool was created in response to client demand for increased budget predictability, and to-date the feedback we’ve received has been exceedingly positive,” said Douglas D. Caddell, chief information officer at Foley. “Our firm is committed to investing in technology solutions that solve client concerns and improve our ability to deliver uniformly high-quality services with distinctive value.”

“For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth—new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge.”

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. Top winners have included: CME Group, Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
