Faith Technologies: Develops lighting savings widget- available on the iPad

Faith Technologies celebrates the 40th anniversary of Earth Day through energy savings education

MENASHA, Wis. – April 22, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. To celebrate this anniversary and promote energy savings, Faith Technologies created an electrical savings widget. This widget is a lighting savings calculator, which can also be used via the iPad. It will be hosted on the company’s website and promoted via social media to help spread the word of how a lighting retrofit can help save energy.

The calculator determines lighting energy savings in manufacturing, warehouse and office environments. Excessive electrical consumption is both expensive for companies, as well as damaging for the environment. Commercial buildings account for 70 percent of the nation’s total electricity consumption. To calculate savings, users enter in their type of existing lighting fixtures, the quantity, the number of hours per day and the number of days per week the lights are running. The calculator then recommends replacement lighting fixtures to calculate their savings per year. The calculator determines how many watts the existing fixtures expend versus the recommended fixtures, and the annual savings both in kW/hours and dollars.

To stay ahead of quickly advancing technology, the calculator was also created to be viewed on the iPad. “As mobile technology evolves and more people are looking to stay connected while on the go, Faith Technologies felt it was important that the widget be viewed across multiple platforms,” noted Tom Clark, Director of Marketing. Faith Technologies’ energy group specializes in custom lighting solutions for replacement and new construction. Faith Technologies does a complete audit of all environmental variables to make lighting recommendations that will maximize efficiency while balancing lighting quality and quantity in your building. In some cases, electrical retrofitting projects have yielded a 25 to 40 percent cost savings annually. In addition to annual savings, there can also be government incentives available to offset the new fixtures.
