MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle announced today that Surgical Site Solutions, Inc., Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, has received the Qualified New Business Venture (QNBV) certification from the Department of Commerce (Commerce). The company’s certification by Commerce makes investors in Surgical Site Solutions, Inc. eligible for a 25-percent tax credit on the amount they invest in the company.

“My administration is committed to helping businesses with their efforts to support new economic development opportunities,” Governor Doyle said. “Surgical Site Solutions, Inc. is built on a foundation of innovative technology and strong leadership. I am very excited to support a company that represents the future of Wisconsin’s economy.”

“The Qualified New Business Venture Program will be a major factor in helping to secure angel funding for our startup company,” said Jim Kregel, President of Surgical Site Solutions, Inc. “I am very pleased that our company was able to qualify for the QNBV certification.”

Formed in 2008, Surgical Site Solutions, Inc. has designed, developed and is in the process of commercializing a small, portable, battery-operated vacuum to remove hair clippings and residue associated with the pre-surgery procedure. Called the ClipVac system, the device fits currently-available surgical clippers and eliminates the use of surgical tape known to introduce contaminants to the surgical area. The device saves time while improving the shave-prep process and lowering the contamination risk through the elimination of surgical tape. Infections at surgery sites add at least 3.7 million additional hospital days and $1.6 billion in hospital charges annually.
