MILWAUKEE – Catholic Knights and Catholic Family Life Insurance today announced that their proposed merger has been approved by the State of Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and is effective as of today.

“This is an exciting time because now, as one organization, we will be even stronger financially, can offer enhanced products and member benefits, grow the organization through a combined sales force and provide even more services to our members, our Church and our communities,” said Bill O’Toole, president and CEO of the merged fraternal organization.

The merged organization will announce its new name, new combined portfolio of insurance and financial products and new and enhanced member benefits in late summer or early fall. The merged entity, which based on assets is now the second-largest Catholic fraternal organization in the country, will be headquartered at the current Catholic Knights facility in downtown Milwaukee.

Collectively the fraternal organization has membership of 120,000 with licensed operations in 28 states, total assets exceeding $1.1 billion and approximately $4.8 billion of insurance in force. As pioneers in the fraternal benefit system, its members are actively engaged in community service. In 2009, the organizations reported a combined total of 180,884 volunteer hours and $3.1 million in charitable donations.

“Hard work, strong faith and commitment by many made this merger possible and the coming months will be full of opportunities to create, build and grow what can be the best fraternal organization for members of the Catholic faith,” said O’Toole.
