Larger, more impactful video scoreboard – with 3 times more display space than previous JumboTron – to create ‘stunning, more visual, more interactive’ experience for sports and entertainment events

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Bradley Center Sports & Entertainment Corporation today unveiled a new, custom-designed scoreboard, demonstrating to media the brighter colors, sharper images, exciting special effects and expanded game stats and sponsor messages that Bradley Center President Steve Costello said will dramatically enhance the fan experience. The $3.2 million, center-hung scoreboard features 12 high-resolution video panels and three times the display space of the previous scoreboard, a Sony JumboTron that had hung at the Bradley Center since 1995.

“This state-of-the-art scoreboard will make for a stunning, more visual, more interactive experience for everyone who visits the Bradley Center, and we’re excited to unveil this incredible piece of technology,” Costello said. “This new scoreboard system was specifically designed for our venue and will help create an even more vibrant and exciting atmosphere for basketball, hockey and other sports and entertainment events. It’s something every fan in the house can – and will – enjoy.”

Fans will get their first glimpse of the new scoreboard at the Milwaukee Bucks preseason game against Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 5, Costello said.

The new scoreboard is 29 feet tall, 32 feet wide and weighs approximately 50,000 pounds. Its 12 video panels – including three, wrap-around marquees that are the only ones of their kind in the NBA – contain more than 3.5 million individual light-emitting diodes, 15 times the LEDs in the old JumboTron. Virtually every viewable surface has the ability to change during an event to deliver live game video, game scores, game and player statistics, the play clock, animated graphics, sponsor messages, videos and more.

The scoreboard was produced by Texas-based TS Sports and designed with input from the Bradley Center and tenants the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee Admirals and the Marquette University Golden Eagles men’s basketball team. It will be used for all Bradley Center athletic events, as well as select shows, concerts and community events.

“What we have is really much more than a scoreboard – it’s a 21st century video display that provides information, entertainment, new sponsorship opportunities and a fun, interactive experience for every fan in the house,” Costello said. “Today’s unveiling is a great way to kick off the 2010-11 sports and entertainment season at the Bradley Center.”

Bradley Center Board Chairman Marc Marotta said the new scoreboard is one of several improvements being made at the Center.

“The Bradley Center was a gift to the people of Wisconsin by the late Jane Bradley Pettit, and we are working hard every day to enhance and extend the life of that gift for millions more fans to enjoy,” Marotta said. “While the new scoreboard is the largest and most visible change, we are making other upgrades, including adding new private theater boxes and exterior signage to better entertain and inform fans as they arrive at the Bradley Center. These improvements will help us keep the Bradley Center viable for as long as possible and ensure it remains an exciting and inviting destination for our many fans attending sports and entertainment events.”

The system’s $3.2 million cost includes the scoreboard; a new hoist system; and related video production equipment and custom software. Costello said that some of the funding for the new system came from a $5 million state bonding grant approved earlier this year.

TS Sports has developed scoreboards and other lighting display systems for sports and entertainment facilities across the country, including the American Airlines Center in Dallas and The Ohio State University. The Bradley Center scoreboard was designed by Virginia-based Anthony James Partners and features LED displays by Lighthouse Technologies, a leading provider of innovative LED systems.
