$500,000 donation to Hometown Care Energy Fund provides heating assistance to WPL customers

MADISON, Wis. – March 25, 2010 – Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy Company, has once again donated $500,000 to its Hometown Care Energy Fund. The Fund benefits WPL customers in need of heating assistance.

“Our Hometown Care Energy Fund allows us to provide some financial relief to the customers who need it most,” said Tim Heinrich, Director of Customer Support Services for Alliant Energy. “This is the right thing to do to help our customers and these funds will help those customers who have difficulty paying for their heat during the critical winter months.”

WPL‘s Hometown Care Energy Fund, which is administered by Energy Services, Inc., raises donations that are used by Community Action Groups to help customers in crisis, above and beyond the assistance provided by the Federal Low-Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Donations and funds collected through the Hometown Care Energy Fund are disbursed by community-based non-profit organizations in Wisconsin who distribute money to those customers in need.

“We appreciate Alliant Energy taking the lead to address a critical need on behalf of their customers,” said Tim Bruer, Executive Director of Energy Services, Inc. “Community agencies rely on the generosity of corporations like Alliant Energy and individual donors to help keep homes safe and warm. This generous $500,000 contribution will go a long way toward achieving that goal.”

In 2009 the Hometown Care Energy Fund helped more than 1,750 households across Wisconsin with an average grant of $300 each. In 2009, WPL customers donated $104,000 to the Fund through optional donations made when they paid their bill.

Since 2000, WPL customers have donated more than $339,000, and Alliant Energy has donated more than $2.6 million to help WPL customers with heating assistance through the Hometown Care Energy Fund.
