— The Wisconsin Green Building Alliance and the Sierra Club are working together to encourage communities to invest in energy-efficient buildings.

The groups say local governments can lead by example by making their own buildings more “green.”

They also suggest offering efficiency incentives for commercial and residential buildings and setting improved minimum standards through energy codes.

— In a new BizOpinion column, Bill Smith of the National Federation of Independent Businesses/Wisconsin argues against an insurance mandate for businesses.

He says “a mandate is ultimately a tax on low-income workers, depressing the wages of some and putting others out of work.”

— The federal government has a new report that it says outlines the benefits of health care reform for Wisconsin.

The report says 541,000 Wisconsinites currently without insurance could get affordable coverage.

It also says nearly 871,000 seniors would receive free preventive services and more than 77,000 small businesses could be helped by a small business tax credit.
