— The Wisconsin Green Building Alliance and the Sierra Club are working together to encourage communities to invest in energy-efficient buildings. The groups say local governments can lead by example by making their own buildings more “green.” They also suggest offering efficiency incentives for commercial and residential buildings and setting improved minimum standards through energy codes. — In a new BizOpinion column, Bill Smith of the National Federation of Independent Businesses/Wisconsin argues against an insurance mandate for businesses. The report says 541,000 Wisconsinites currently without insurance could get affordable coverage. Federal funding to drive cranberry industry in 2010: Having finished what many expected to be a high-yield harvest, local cranberry growers are looking ahead to the benefits of increased research in 2010. Schwabe investing $10M, creating Green Bay jobs: Schwabe North America announced in October it would invest more than $10 million in Green Bay, establishing a distribution center, expanding existing operations and creating 100 jobs.
