— Stocks open this week looking to recover after two straight weeks of losses.

The Dow Jones opens at 9,487, nearly 200 points lower than last week’s open.

The WisBusiness index of state stocks is down too, having lost nearly 75 points on the week to open at 1,643. Part of that decline came from the Manitowoc Company, which lost nearly 15 percent of its value last week and closed at $8.14 a share.

— Dane County Exec. Kathleen Falk says that although Chicago won’t be the site of the 2016 Olympics, the attention that Dane County got for its bicycling facilities will mean the area “will attract events for 100 years.”

But Falk said on Sunday’s “UpFront with Mike Gousha” the Olympics would have meant “a lot of dollars and a lot of attention.”

Madison would have been the site of biking events had Chicago won its bid.

Falk said the while Olympics may have accelerated the construction of a high-speed train link from Chicago to Milwaukee to Madison, she was optimistic that the plans will move forward.

— The Wisconsin Farm Bureau says the average price of 20 basic food items dropped in the third quarter of the year.

The average price was $52.10, $1.30 less than the quarter before.

Many items saw only small changes, but decreases of over 5 percent were seen in tomatoes, potatoes, Cheerios, and white bread.
