— Stocks open this week looking to recover after two straight weeks of losses. The Dow Jones opens at 9,487, nearly 200 points lower than last week’s open. The WisBusiness index of state stocks is down too, having lost nearly 75 points on the week to open at 1,643. Part of that decline came from the Manitowoc Company, which lost nearly 15 percent of its value last week and closed at $8.14 a share. Kathleen Falk says that although Chicago won’t be the site of the 2016 Olympics, the attention that Dane County got for its bicycling facilities will mean the area “will attract events for 100 years.” But Falk said on Sunday’s “UpFront with Mike Gousha” the Olympics would have meant “a lot of dollars and a lot of attention.” Madison would have been the site of biking events had Chicago won its bid. Falk said the while Olympics may have accelerated the construction of a high-speed train link from Chicago to Milwaukee to Madison, she was optimistic that the plans will move forward. The average price was $52.10, $1.30 less than the quarter before. Many items saw only small changes, but decreases of over 5 percent were seen in tomatoes, potatoes, Cheerios, and white bread. Food companies’ profits draw ire of dairy farmers: Dairy farmers are pressing federal antitrust regulators to investigate why large food companies are making hefty profits while farmers are going broke. Racine manufacturer bringing 28 jobs from Texas: A&E Inc. Friday morning announced a work force expansion and capital investment program that will create 28 new jobs here and retain the existing 140 local jobs. Winnebago Mental Health Institute announces layoffs: About 85 employees at Winnebago Mental Health Institute received layoff notices last week. The state-owned facility expects it will have a significant drop in the number of children and adolescents admitted for services next year and won’t need as many employees. Oshkosh to supply cameras on military ATVs: The defense division of Oshkosh Corp. has received a $33 million award to supply a rear-mounted camera system on over 2,200 military all-terrain vehicles. The award is from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command. Cheese plant lays off 50: A Marathon Cheese Corp. plant in Mountain Home, Idaho, is laying off more than 50 employees, citing an industry slump. The plant opened in January 2007 and now has a work force of fewer than 300 in southern Idaho.
