It opens today five points below the 10,000 mark, but 130 points higher than last week’s open. The WisBusiness index of state stocks opens higher as well, having gained 19 points to open at 1,755. The Wisconsin index was helped along by Harley-Davidson’s stock, which gained $4 on the week even as it announced the end of its Buell line of motorcycles and reported a dip in quarterly profits. — Earnings reports from state companies this week will largely come from manufacturers and banks. Today will see releases from manufacturers Twin Disc and Badger Meter, followed by trucking company Marten Transport on Tuesday. Thursday will be a busy day for reports, as Associated Bank and M&I Bank report their earnings, as will manufacturers like Briggs & Stratton, Strattec and Bucyrus. Specialty crops include items like fruits, vegetables, nuts and nursery crops like flowers. Apple and berry growers, wineries, potato growers and cranberry farmers will all benefit from the program. Trade agency launches coated paper imports probe: The U.S. International Trade Commission has launched its investigation this week into allegations by U.S. paper manufacturers, including those with operations in Wisconsin, of unfair trade practices in regards to coated paper imported from China and Indonesia. Uniek adds 17 full-time positions: Uniek, a Waunakee manufacturer of picture frames, is boosting staff because it is bucking the trend to outsource. Since February, Uniek has added 17 jobs and upgraded 30 temporary jobs to regular, full-time positions for a total staff of nearly 400, as the company prepares for the holiday season. Receiver sues Utica Energy for $3M owed to Olsen’s Mill: The legal issues surrounding the Olsen family’s ethanol and grain businesses continue to pile up. The receiver appointed in January to manage the assets of Olsen’s Mill Inc.’s while a Green Lake County Circuit Court judge determined the best way to repay the company’s creditors has filed a civil suit seeking overdue payment for grain supplied to the Olsen family’s Utica Energy LLC. Mercury Marine officials take issue with report: Mercury Marine and local leaders are responding to criticism leveled last week by the Institute for Wisconsin’s Future (IWF) against the company, the Brunswick Corporation and local government. The IWF, a non-profit organization that says it is committed to research and community education regarding state economic issues, gave a presentation in Milwaukee called “The Twisted Saga of Mercury Marine.”
