— After breaking the 10,000 mark for the first time in months, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed out last week just below that milestone.

It opens today five points below the 10,000 mark, but 130 points higher than last week’s open.

The WisBusiness index of state stocks opens higher as well, having gained 19 points to open at 1,755.

The Wisconsin index was helped along by Harley-Davidson’s stock, which gained $4 on the week even as it announced the end of its Buell line of motorcycles and reported a dip in quarterly profits.

— Earnings reports from state companies this week will largely come from manufacturers and banks.

Today will see releases from manufacturers Twin Disc and Badger Meter, followed by trucking company Marten Transport on Tuesday.

Thursday will be a busy day for reports, as Associated Bank and M&I Bank report their earnings, as will manufacturers like Briggs & Stratton, Strattec and Bucyrus.

— Wisconsin is getting $750,000 in federal money to make its specialty crop industry more competitive.

Specialty crops include items like fruits, vegetables, nuts and nursery crops like flowers. Apple and berry growers, wineries, potato growers and cranberry farmers will all benefit from the program.

The money is going into areas like product marketing, disease research, consumer education and local food programs.
