— The state has announced that Wisconsin’s unemployment rate for November was 7.8 percent, up 0.1 percentage points from October’s final rate of 7.7 percent. That’s 2.6 percentage points higher than one year earlier but still below the national rate. From October to November, total Wisconsin non-farm employment decreased by an estimated 9,800 jobs. The state’s labor secretary says the steady rate is encouraging news but that there is still work to be done to help the scores of people who are still jobless. The nonpartisan research organization also said that, with state and local government revenues growing less here than elsewhere, the Badger State’s 50-state spending rank dropped from 13th to 26th. Wisconsin health official: $600 million cuts on track: The state is on track to cut more than $600 million from Medicaid, but even with those reductions, high demand from the poor for insurance benefits could result in up to a $150 million shortfall, the secretary of Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services said Thursday. Chemical firm to bring 125 jobs to Pleasant Prairie : An Illinois chemical distributor plans to buy a vacant building in Pleasant Prairie’s LakeView Corporate Park, and hopes to move there by March – bringing up to 125 jobs to that Kenosha County community.
