— The state has announced that Wisconsin’s unemployment rate for November was 7.8 percent, up 0.1 percentage points from October’s final rate of 7.7 percent.

That’s 2.6 percentage points higher than one year earlier but still below the national rate.

From October to November, total Wisconsin non-farm employment decreased by an estimated 9,800 jobs.

The state’s labor secretary says the steady rate is encouraging news but that there is still work to be done to help the scores of people who are still jobless.

— Over the past 15 years, Wisconsin’s tax ranking among the 50 states fell from third in 1993 to 14th in 2007, according to a new report, “Long-Term Tax and Spending Ranks,” from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.

The nonpartisan research organization also said that, with state and local government revenues growing less here than elsewhere, the Badger State’s 50-state spending rank dropped from 13th to 26th.
