WHITEWATER Marketing Professor Jimmy Peltier of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has been honored with the Social Entrepreneur of the Year award.

The leadership award recognizes an individual who has promoted entrepreneurship. It was created in conjunction with the Wisconsin Youth Entrepreneurs Conference, held in November at UW-Whitewater, which focused on the development of entrepreneurial spirit among Wisconsin college students.

Peltier has worked hard to promote entrepreneurship at UW-Whitewater, including his efforts to develop the university’s new entrepreneurial major.

Derek Henze, marketing coordinator for Toppers Pizza and a past president of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization at UW-Whitewater, presented the award to Peltier. He said Peltier earned the award for his extensive work with UW-Whitewater’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization and his dedication to developing successful students and programs at the university.

Peltier said this award is very meaningful to him. “It means that I’ve touched the lives of students and had an impact through their entrepreneurial and business experience,” he said.

Julie Berg, president of the UW-Whitewater chapter of the American Marketing Association, spoke on Peltier’s behalf at the conference. She said Peltier’s accessibility and willingness to help students make him very deserving of the award.

“Not only has he made the entrepreneurship program something big and been a great adviser for AMA, but he’s also always around to listen to student ideas and help us work through things,” she said.

Peltier, who played an integral role in the development of the entrepreneurship major, said this honor shows that UW-Whitewater’s new program is moving in the right direction in seeking to influence entrepreneurs in the region and state.

“Not only does this show that we’re pointed in the right direction, but for the university it’s just one more point of recognition for an already great institution,” he said. “This truly shows that we have many great programs and many great faculty.”
