The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Gov. Jim Doyle will welcome nearly 300 Central Wisconsin eighth-graders this Friday, April 24, during UWSP’s Wisconsin Covenant Day.
The Wisconsin Covenant is a pledge that all of the state’s eighth-grade students are urged to sign, committing to meet certain requirements in their high school years in exchange for a guaranteed spot at a Wisconsin public university or two-year college, as well as a financial aid package based on their family’s needs.
“I have no doubt that we will be greeting dozens of future Pointers this Friday,” said UWSP Chancellor Linda Bunnell.
“This event will give our young visitors just a hint of what university life is like, and I know it will spark many dreams that will one day come true through a UWSP education,” she added.
Doyle is scheduled to be accompanied by Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson, Pepi Randolph, the CEO of the Potawatomi Business Development Corporation, and former Green Bay Packers linebacker George Koonce.
Covenant Day participants will meet UWSP students and faculty members, learn about how a university works, explore campus, and eat lunch together.
UWSP’s Wisconsin Covenant Day begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Alumni Room of the Dreyfus University Center.
