MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today thanked Gary Wolter, chairman, president and CEO of Madison Gas and Electric, for helping to launch the state’s Office of Recovery and Reinvestment, which was created to ensure that federal funds will produce open, accountable results that will put the economy back on track.

“The challenge posed to us under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a tremendous opportunity to revitalize our country’s infrastructure and economy with investments that will strengthen Wisconsin and our nation. By improving the way we create and use energy, by rebuilding our roads and rail lines and by investing in our schools, health care systems and water treatment plants, we will make our lives safer, cleaner and healthier,” Governor Doyle said. “In this tremendous effort, I am very pleased to have the leadership of Gary Wolter, who agreed to establish our Office of Recovery and Reinvestment on a volunteer basis.”

“It has been a real honor to serve Governor Doyle and the state of Wisconsin,” Wolter said. “This was a great opportunity to help set up an office committed to rebuilding the state in a way that will create lasting value to our economy.”

Wolter’s voluntary service leading the Office of Recovery and Reinvestment will end on May 8. The incoming director, effective May 11, will be Governor Doyle’s deputy policy director, Chris Patton.
