Dells Raceway Park: Pepsi Night at Dells Raceway Park

Perfect racing weather and six great divisions of racing were showcased Saturday night at Dells Raceway Park.

Starting his night off on a high note, Kenny Reiser took the top spot in qualifying in the Super Late Model division with a 13.461. Thayran Rezin would lead off the feature from the pole position, but Kyle Kinder would quickly take over the lead. Kinder continued to dominate throughout the feature, but with eleven laps left the caution flag was thrown. The restart would allow Michael Gunderson, Kenny Reiser, Collin Bamke, and Jeff Kendall an opportunity to steal the lead from Kinder, and it was Gunderson who snuck past Kinder to take over the lead. Michael Gunderson picked up his first feature win of the season.

Terry Patnode won the Super Late Model Dash. Heat race winners were Kurt Tillman and Mike Egan.

In the Limited Late Model division, Steve Lichtfeld posted his first quick qualifying time with a 14.348. Ed Jackson, Nick Nolden, and Mike Ehde won their heat races. In the Semi Feature, Joel Soenksen and Luke Hoffman earned the two feature transfer spots.

The action packed feature started with Bill Gray on the pole, but just ten laps into the feature Mike Ehde had worked his way up from the middle of the field to the top spot. With just three laps to go caution was out with Ehde at the pole, Michael Clapper in second, and Robert Kendall in third. When the race resumed to green, a mechanical failure in Ehde’s car allowed Kendall the opportunity to take his car to the outside and cruise past Clapper for the lead and his first feature win. At just fourteen years old Robert Kendall is the youngest driver to win a feature in the Limited Late Model division at DRP.

Scott Luck started out the night strong by setting fast time with a 14.825. With a full invert, Luck would start at the tail of the field for the 10 lap heat race. In only 5 laps, he cruised to the top stop for the win. Scott Luck and Mike Lichtfeld found themselves buried deep in the pack to start the feature. Lichtfeld navigated through the field early, and took the lead by lap eight. When the checkered flag flew it was Lichtfeld in first, followed by Scott Luck, and John Zuch.

In the Bandit division Brian Warner was the quick qualifier for the week with a 17.545. Cody Gray jumped to an early lead in the feature but couldn’t hang on when Jody Schmidt worked his way up to the front. By lap seven, Schmidt had taken over the top spot and would bring his car home to victory lane. Brandon Junget and Jody Schmidt won their heat races.

Sam Haven was the fast qualifier in the WI Sport Truck division with a 15.691. Jacob Boldig picked up both a heat race and a feature win.

In the CSR Super Cup Adult division Jim Termanes and Erle Hoth won the heat races. Jim Termanes took the lead early in the feature and claimed the checkered flag. In the junior division Jake Zellmer won the heat and the feature race.
