Dells Raceway Park: Military Salute Night at DRP

Dells Raceway Park teamed up with the Armed Forces Saturday night to salute the men and women who have served and are currently serving in the military. The Army National Guard, Marine Corp, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Air Force were all on hand with static displays. A special Pledge of Allegiance by Cub Scout Troop 66 started off the opening ceremonies along with National anthem parade laps led by the Warriors Watch Riders.

The Mid American Stock Car Series returned for Dells Duel Part 2. They were joined on track with the Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Bandits. With a few quick showers causing rain delays track officials quickly readjusted their plans, running feature events only.

When the checkered flag flew over the 22-car starting field of MASCS competitors, Mark Pluer emerged victorious. It was Pluer’s first win in a Mid-American event in almost nine years. To read the full Mid American story click here.

In the Limited Late Model division Steve Lichtfeld started the feature on the pole. An early caution in lap 7 gave Nick Nolden the opportunity to take over the lead. The pressure was on in the pack to catch up to Nolden, but in the end it was Nolden with the win, Kurt Clapper in second, and Corey Jankowski in third. Rich Schumann Jr was fast qualifier for the night with a 14.269.

For the first time this season, Scott Luck set fast time in the Super Stock division with a 14.874. Terry Knupp lead the race for the first 8 laps as Jim Bates moved up the field from fifth place. On lap 9 Bates in the #34 Bubba Gump Shrimp car took over the lead. With 21 laps remaining in the feature Bates started feeling pressure on his bumper from the fast qualifier, car #12 of Scott Luck. When the checkered flag flew it was Bates who visited Victory Lane, picking up his first feature win of the 2009 season.

Dave Trute was the quick qualifier in the Pure Stock division with a 16.112. Ron Grabarski displayed a dominating performance by leading flag to flag in the feature. The race was not without action however, as Willy Schreiber and Brad Luck raced tough to catch Ron. When the last lap was complete, it was Grabarski in the lead, followed by Schreiber, and Luck.

The Bandit division returned to DRP after a two week break, and points leader Brian Warner set fast qualifying time with a 17.447. With 20 cars starting the feature it was guaranteed to be action packed and fans were not disappointed. Mark Ailes gained the lead early in the feature with Pete Carlson, Brian Warner, and Brandon Junget all battling for positions behind him. With only a lap to go Ailes dropped back allowing Carlson to take the lead followed by Warner and Junget in third.
