Madison, Wis. – Today AT&T’s* employee and retiree volunteer organization – the AT&T Pioneers – joined forces with special military guests and community volunteers to wrap and ship donated gifts to more than 150 Wisconsin servicemen and women serving overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the AT&T Pioneer’s H.O.M.E (Helping Our Military Everyday) program. The gifts included hand-held games; homemade Christmas cookies; 12 inch Christmas trees and decorations; fleece blankets and lots of Christmas cards. The American Legion in Cross Plains hosted the gift wrapping event.

The AT&T Pioneers have sent holiday packages to troops serving overseas for the past six years. Special “guest gift wrappers” this year included State Representative Brett Davis; Mike Brennan, the father of a fallen hero – Sgt. Joshua Brennan – who was killed in Afghanistan in October of 2007 and had been on the shipping list for Pioneer care packages; and Cindy Berge, a local mother whose son, Andrew Berge, is currently serving overseas in Afghanistan and also receives regular care packages from the AT&T Pioneers.

“At AT&T we believe it is important to honor our military men and women and never forget the sacrifices they make for their fellow countrymen every day,” said Scott T. VanderSanden, President of AT&T Wisconsin. “We are proud to join Rep. Brett Davis, the AT&T Pioneers and all the generous volunteers who donated their time and talents today to helping make the holidays brighter for our troops overseas.”

“Our servicemen and women have dedicated their lives to making the world a safer place for all of us,” said Rep. Brett Davis. “They spend long months and many holidays separated from their friends and families back home. I am hopeful these care packages will deliver a much appreciated dose of holiday cheer to our men and women in uniform.”

H.O.M.E is part of AT&T Cares, AT&T’s new and expanded volunteer initiative, created to encourage employees to get engaged in community service that is meaningful to them and their communities, to create change and to stay engaged. With the Pioneers’ strong commitment and historical success in

volunteerism, they are guiding the new initiative and helping employees find volunteer opportunities that best match their interests with community service needs, whether it’s an individual, group and companywide volunteerism projects.

AT&T Cares provides employees with an interactive Internal Web portal that helps them identity their “Volunteer Personality” through a fun, easy quiz and then links them to volunteerism options that best align with their personality type. The goal of the initiative is to immediately increase employee community service engagement and, over the long term, make a sustained increase in volunteerism hours.
