Gov. Jim Doyle today unveiled his Next Generation Manufacturing plan, which he said would target $85 million in existing and new tax credits to leverage $1.6 billion in private capital investment.

He said the effort would focus on efficiency and lean manufacturing principles. If successful, it also would create 5,000 new positions and train 4,000 workers for the jobs of the future.

“Wisconsin is home to the best manufacturing companies in the world,” Doyle said. “To remain competitive, our manufacturers must continue to become leaner and more efficient. This plan will build on our success, helping Wisconsin manufacturers modernize and access the support they need to compete in the global economy.”
