Wisconsin has received a $1.8 million National Emergency Grant to assist workers displaced by the closure of the Electrical and Safety and Powertrain divisions of Delphi Corporation located in Oak Creek, Gov. Jim Doyle announced today.

The grant, awarded to the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), will be used to provide assessment, counseling, retraining, and job placement services to approximately 400 individuals. Services under the grant will be coordinated with services and benefits also available to these workers through the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program.

The project will be operated by the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board through the Milwaukee HIRE Center.

“This federal funding will help employees increase their skills and attain new employment sooner,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased the Department of Workforce Development is able to offer retraining and reemployment services tailored to meet the needs of individual workers.”
