TRADITION OF INDYCAR SERIES RACING RETURNS IN 2009 TO THE MILWAUKEE MILE, SET FOR MAY 30-31

Race Day Once Again Sunday After Memorial Day, To Include Winner of Indy 500

West Allis, Wis. (July 30, 2008) – The Milwaukee Mile will host the stars of the IndyCar Series on May 30-31, 2009, a renewal of the coveted and time-honored event immediately after the Indianapolis 500 on the IndyCar Series schedule.

“The tradition continues of IndyCar Series racing at The Milwaukee Mile the event following the Indianapolis 500 for an unparalleled 52nd time, and we couldn’t be more excited for our fans,” Milwaukee Mile Chairman Marcus Lemonis said.

A virtual who’s-who of IndyCar Series racing has competed at The Milwaukee Mile, including virtually every Indianapolis 500 champion. Larger-than-life driving legends DePalma, Foyt, Andretti, Ward, Clark, Unser, Johncock, Mears and Rutherford all found victory lane at Indianapolis and at The Milwaukee Mile.

“It was an honor to have Ryan Briscoe score his first series victory in what was legendary team owner Roger Penske’s 300th professional victory in our event two months ago. We are already planning for an exciting May 30-31, 2009 IndyCar Series event weekend, and look forward to greeting the next open wheel star to pull into A.J. Foyt Victory Lane at America’s Legendary Oval,” Lemonis continued.

Foyt has lent his name to The Mile’s IndyCar Series event since 2004, and has competed more times on the historic one-mile oval than at any other track during his legendary driving career. In recognition and celebration of Foyt’s 50th year in IndyCar Series racing in 2006, Milwaukee Mile officials renamed their winner’s circle “A.J. Foyt Victory Lane” on its IndyCar Series race weekend.

The IndyCar Series released its 2009 schedule earlier today, with slight modifications to existing venue dates, the extension of the season into October, and the addition of the Toronto street course event.

The Milwaukee Mile follows the 93rd Running of the Indianapolis 500 as round five of 18 on the 2009 IndyCar Series campaign, which will be comprised of ten ovals, three natural terrain road courses and five temporary street circuits.

In the unprecedented 51 occasions the Indianapolis 500 has been followed by The Milwaukee Mile on the IndyCar Series schedule, just nine drivers have been able to score back-to-back victories: 1956 – Pat Flaherty; 1964 – A.J. Foyt; 1971 – Al Unser; 1974 – Johnny Rutherford; 1982 – Gordon Johncock; 1983 – Tom Sneva; 1988 – Rick Mears; 1994 – Al Unser, Jr.; and 2000 – Juan Pablo Montoya.

The Milwaukee Mile is America’s oldest active speedway, with motorized racing events dating back to 1903. Many of the drivers that competed in the very first Indianapolis 500 in 1911 – and nearly every Indy 500 since – have competed at The Milwaukee Mile.

Ticket renewal packets and ticket information regarding The Milwaukee Mile’s 2009 schedule are expected to be made available in the Fall, with individual ticket sales expected to be available for the holidays.
