Governor Doyle to Act on Legislation to Strengthen Protections for Great Lakes

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle will act on legislation to strengthen protections for the Great Lakes, Tuesday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Discovery World at the Pier in Milwaukee. He will be joined by a coalition of lawmakers, environmental groups and local officials in this effort to preserve and protect the Great Lakes.


 


April 2008 Special Session Senate Bill 1 ratifies the Great Lakes Compact, creating unprecedented protections for the Great Lakes and ensuring their continued availability for regional economic growth. It will ban long-distance diversions and provide a framework for ensuring sustainable water use in the Great Lakes basin.
