MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Chairperson Dan Ebert is leaving the Public Service Commission, effective May 23, 2008. The Governor also announced that Eric Callisto, current Executive Assistant at the Public Service Commission, has been appointed to succeed Ebert as Chairperson. He will begin serving as Chairperson effective May 27, 2008.

“Eric Callisto brings incredible knowledge and insight to this position,” Governor Doyle said. “His background in environmental law and his leadership on a variety of important topics at the Commission for the last two years will continue to serve Wisconsin citizens well during his tenure as Chairperson.”

“It is an honor to serve the state of Wisconsin, which has a long history of leading the nation in utility regulation and energy conservation,” Callisto, 44, said. “Protecting our environment and the consumer while maintaining a reliable utility service will remain an important focus of the Public Service Commission and the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin continues to be presented with opportunities and challenges in energy, telecommunications, and water utility regulation, and I look forward to addressing them with Commissioners Meyer, Azar, and the strong staff at the PSC. I thank Governor Doyle for giving me this opportunity, and I applaud him for his ongoing efforts to achieve energy independence.”

Governor Doyle thanked Chairperson Ebert for his strong leadership and outstanding service as Chairperson of the Public Service Commission.

“Chairperson Ebert has been an outstanding leader for the Public Service Commission and a key player in positioning Wisconsin as a leader in renewable energy and energy conservation,” Governor Doyle said. “His work on renewable energy, energy conservation, Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator matters and his dedication to reducing greenhouse gas emissions will have a positive impact on Wisconsin for years to come.”

“It has been the highest privilege to serve Governor Doyle and the citizens of Wisconsin for the last 5 and ½ years and I would like to thank him for the incredible opportunity to lead the Public Service Commission,” Chairperson Ebert said. “His leadership and extraordinary vision in shaping the future of energy in Wisconsin have been critical to the advances we have made in Wisconsin. As I move on to new challenges, I look forward to continuing to work with Governor Doyle and his entire administration to move Wisconsin forward.”

During his tenure at the PSC, Chairperson Ebert has focused on the challenges of implementing a regional wholesale electric market and ensuring that the new system is providing real benefits for Wisconsin ratepayers. Chairperson Ebert has served on the Organization of MISO States (OMS) Board of Directors since 2005. In 2005, he served as OMS Vice-President and represented the OMS on the MISO Advisory Committee.

Chairperson Ebert has worked to create a balanced energy system while protecting the environment — a priority for the agency. He also working closely with the Governor’s Task Force on Energy Efficiency and Renewables, the Governor’s Task Force on Global Warming, the Wisconsin Bio-Cabinet Work Group and with legislators on implementing legislation, increasing energy efficiency and meeting new renewable energy portfolio standards.
