Governor Doyle Announces Additional Energy Assistance Funds

Governor Jim Doyle announced today Wisconsin has received $17.9 million in Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Funds.  This is in addition to the $69.7 million received last fall.

“I have made funding for LIHEAP one of my federal priorities every year since I took office,” Governor Doyle said. “These additional funds will be used to assist 150,000 low income families across the state with payment of their energy bills.  With the forecasted cold weather ahead and the continued high fuel costs, the release of these funds couldn’t be timelier.”

The funds will be distributed through the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program during the month of February.  Individuals seeking information on how and where to apply for assistance are encouraged to call 1-800-522-3014 or visit my website at www.energyhelp.wi.gov.
