Governor Doyle Announces $400,000 Brownfield Grant to Village of Cedar Grove

MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the Village of Cedar Grove in Sheboygan County will receive a Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) grant of $400,000 to help redevelop an unoccupied and underutilized property.

“Brownfield grants help renew damaged or vacant land and provide communities with opportunities for additional reinvestment,” Governor Doyle said. “I’m pleased to provide this grant, which will help revitalize Cedar Grove.”

The Village of Cedar Grove plans to redevelop the former Bruce Foundry. Plans include the demolition of onsite buildings and the completion of environmental cleanup. The village is working with a local business in their efforts to expand their operations to this site. Total investment is anticipated to exceed $3,000,000.

Commerce’s BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
