(Madison) Wisconsin high school students are eligible to enter the 2008 National Financial Literacy Challenge but have only until May 16 to complete the online test.

Information about the test is available at: http://flc.treas.gov/teacher.

“I urge all Wisconsin students to take part in this challenge,” said DFI Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann.  “It offers the opportunity for some great rewards and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The competition consists of a 35-question test.  Challenge questions were developed in consultation with economists, Junior Achievement USA, the National Council on Economic Education, the National Endowment for Financial Education and the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is sponsoring the competition that is recommended by the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy.

Each of the top regional performers in the 2008 National Financial Literacy Challenge will win a $2,500 scholarship for use at the post-secondary institution of their choice.  A $1,000 contribution in their name will additionally be given to the school or program that provided their money management education.

Each winner and two guests will also enjoy a trip to Washington, D.C.   The trip will include an awards banquet on June 17, official recognition at the June 18 meeting of the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy and special tours and activities.
