Wisconsin Virtual Academy and Honors High Online to Host Over 100 Events Across Wisconsin During Open Enrollment

FREDONIA, Wis., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — With the rapid growth and demand for public online education options in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA) and Honors High Online of Wisconsin are preparing for their largest ever outreach effort to parents and students during the state’s open enrollment period, which runs from February 5 – 23.

Beginning Monday, the schools will host over 100 events in cities and towns all across Wisconsin for parents and students to learn about the schools, view the exciting web-based curriculum, hear from teachers and parents, and find out how they can enroll in the schools for the 2007-08 school year.

The schools will host a mix of different events for parents and students, including:

  — Information Sessions: 60-minute events held at convenient locations all

across Wisconsin designed for parents and students to review the
curriculum, demonstrate lessons and materials, and answer questions
about the schools.
— Meet ‘n’ Greet Socials: Hosted at local coffee shops and other casual
venues, these gatherings are designed to give parents and students an
opportunity to meet and talk with other families, teachers and staff in

a relaxing and informal atmosphere.
— Virtual Information Sessions: Web-based sessions that allow parents
and students from anywhere in the state to join an informational
meeting about the schools, with the opportunity to see a live
demonstration of one of the interactive “e-classroom” tools used in the

schools.
— Education Expos and Showcases: These big, exciting education events
include curriculum demonstrations, workshops for parents, fun
activities for kids of all ages, and exciting guest speakers. A great
opportunity to meet teachers, students, parents and school staff.
All of the events are free and open to the public.

The Wisconsin Virtual Academy and Honors High Online of Wisconsin are sponsored by the Northern Ozaukee School District. Both schools use the award-winning curriculum developed by K12 Inc. — a leading national provider of high quality education programs and academic services to public schools.

The Wisconsin Virtual Academy, which serves 685 students in grades K-8, is one of the state’s largest and top performing public virtual schools in the state. Last year, WIVA students had the highest overall test scores of any state-wide virtual school in grades K-8, and outperformed the state average in reading in every grade. The school was also credited for making Adequately Yearly Progress goals.

Honors High Online of Wisconsin is the new online public high school program that will serve students in grades nine and ten. The new online high school was approved by the Northern Ozaukee School Board in December. The

school was opened to meet the growing demand from high school students in Wisconsin for more and better online learning options.
