Wisconsin Humanities Council Offers Motheread/Fatheread Training

MADISON, Wis., April 25 /PRNewswire/ — The Wisconsin Humanities Council, with the help of the Verizon Foundation, is offering Wisconsin’s teachers, librarians, and other literacy instructors an opportunity to receive the newly updated Motheread/Fatheread Story Exploring(R) curriculum at half the cost of normal tuition.

Instruction will take place June 26, 2007 in Madison at the UW-Extension’s Pyle Center. A gift from the Verizon Foundation is enabling the WHC to offer $150 “Verizon Scholarships” to twenty instructors new to Motheread/Fatheread(R). Applicants who live or work in a Verizon local service area will be given priority for the scholarships. Tuition is just $50 for participants previously certified as Motheread/Fatheread(R) instructors. Registration deadline is May 15, 2007.

The Story Exploring(R) books reflect the findings of current research and federal guidelines for early childhood and elementary school reading instruction. Story Exploring(R) offers three levels using over 100 multicultural children’s books.

Established in 1972 as an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Wisconsin Humanities Council supports public programs that engage the people of Wisconsin in the exploration of human cultures, ideas, and values.
