Gov. Jim Doyle used his partial veto authority today to give state agencies greater authority over new statewide cable TV franchises, while also maintaining some consumer protections.

“It is imperative that the state agencies responsible for implementing the state franchise and enforcing anti-discrimination provisions have the ability to interpret these statutes through administrative rule,” Doyle wrote in his veto message.

His partial vetoes also included nixing a prohibition on municipalities from charging for a fee for the use of public rights of way by providers and preserve current law on credits for service outages.
