We Energies honored for commitment to safety and health

MILWAUKEE – We Energies has been named a corporate leader in health and safety by the Wisconsin Council of Safety (WCS). The Corporate Safety Award is presented to organizations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety, successful implementation of results-based safety programs and an exemplary corporate safety record. Company officials accepted the honor last night at the WCS Awards Ceremony.

“This award reflects our strong commitment to safety at every level of the organization,” said Charley Cole, We Energies senior vice president-Customer Operations. “Each and every employee deserves to work in a safe environment–with co-workers that are committed to zero injuries–and to return home safe and sound every day.”

We Energies has used results-based safety programs such as Save-a-Back, Near Miss and the Personal Safety Management Program to teach the proper mechanics of performing physical activity and outline clear expectations for safe behavior. The programs also stress the effectiveness of learning from fellow team members’ experiences.

“In the end, it comes down to caring,” said Cole. “Our employees care about the safety of their team members as much as they care about their own, personal safety. Reinforcing safe work practices and preventing injury is everyone’s job – and we’re steadily gaining momentum toward our goal of a 100 percent injury-free workplace.”
