Dr. Thomas “Rock” Mackie, co-founder of Madison-based TomoTherapy Inc., will talk about the company’s origins and progress since its initial public offering at the Tuesday, Aug. 28 WIN-Madison luncheon.
The luncheon will be held at the Sheraton Hotel on Madison’s John Nolen Drive. Registration and networking begin at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for WIN members, $35 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships.
TomoTherapy has developed, manufactures and sells the TomoTherapy “Hi-Art” treatment system, an advanced radiation therapy system for the treatment of a wide variety of cancers. The system is integrates CT imaging with conformal radiation therapy to deliver sophisticated radiation treatments with speed and precision while reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Their approach improves the effectiveness and efficiency of radiation treatment for the full range of cancer tumors.
Mackie co-founded the company in 1997 and has served as chairman of its board of directors since 1999. Since 1987, Mackie has been a professor in the departments of Medical Physics and Human Oncology at the UW-Madison, where he established the TomoTherapy research program.
