Spring’s Wings Birding and Art Festival

GREEN BAY, Wis., April 12 /PRNewswire/ — Celebrate the many ways we interact with birds at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary’s Spring’s Wings Birding and Art Festival on May 12 – 13, 2007. The Sanctuary is open from 8a.m. – 7:30p.m. both days. Learn more about our “Friends in Flight” through craft projects, education programs and touring the sanctuary. “Birding has become more popular as an outdoor hobby and activity for all ages,” said Wildlife Sanctuary Curator, Mike Reed. “This increase in popularity was one of the driving factors of holding the event.”

Visitors will enjoy making a birdhouse or feeder, learning how wildlife is rehabilitated, participating in an artist lead bird drawing class, and seeing live birds of prey up close. For those looking for a more immersive experience, the festival is offering a series of field trips that include a visit to the Green Bay Botanical Garden, the East Side Uplands, and a birding expedition on the Foxy Lady Cruise Boat. Pre-registration for field trips is required.

The Art Festival will feature nature-based artwork from some of the regions’ best artists. The show will take place from 9a.m. – 6p.m. on Saturday and 11a.m. – 4p.m. on Sunday.

“Every year more people become aware that the Wildlife Sanctuary is uniquely located to provide fantastic opportunities to observe birds,” Reed stated. “It is wonderful that we are able to offer visitors a variety of ways to enjoy and learn about birding.”

The Spring’s Wings Birding and Art Festival is sponsored by the Friends of the Wildlife Sanctuary, the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay Cofrin Center for Biodiversity, the Northeastern Wisconsin Arts Council and the City of Green Bay. The festival was also a recipient of a JEM grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.
