PSC Awards Nearly $160,000 to Citizen Group

MADISON – Today, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) awarded $159,164 to an organization representing citizens in Wisconsin.  The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) received $133,884 to participate in a rate case filed by We Energies and $25,280 for a rate case filed by Madison Gas and Electric (MG&E).

“Wisconsin’s intervenor compensation program allows all voices to be heard and encourages involvement of organizations and individuals who would not typically be able to participate in cases before the Commission,” said Chairperson Dan Ebert.  “Cases before the Commission are complicated and CUB’s participation in these rate cases has been and will continue to be valuable.”

In 1983, the Wisconsin State Legislature created the intervenor compensation program to provide financial assistance for organizations and individuals who choose to become an intervenor in a PSC proceeding.  Each year, the Commission awards a number of different organizations and individuals with finances to help them participate in cases.  The Commission is allotted $750,000 annually and in this fiscal year has awarded over $500,000 to different eligible participants.
