MADISON – Today, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) approved construction
of natural gas line projects for Wisconsin Gas, We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service
Corporation (WPSC).
“These projects clearly demonstrate the success of regulatory reform,” said Chairperson Dan
Ebert. “The PSC, Department of Natural Resources and parties to the case started working
together on these applications early in the process. Their hard work has helped provide the
Commission with a clear and comprehensive record – allowing us to make a fair and sound
decision today.”
In a verbal decision today, the Commission approved the applications from the three utilities to
build approximately 85 miles of natural gas distribution lines to connect to a proposed interstate
pipeline expansion project. Guardian Pipeline LLC must first receive approval from the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission on the interstate expansion project before construction on the
projects approved today can begin. The gas lines, built by Wisconsin Gas, We Energies and
WPSC, will run through Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Calumet, Brown, Outagamie, Dodge and
Washington counties.
“There is a definite need for these natural gas lines,” said Commissioner Mark Meyer. “These
projects will increase reliability, add needed natural gas capacity and will help foster competition
in the natural gas market.”
The Commission will issue a final order based on today’s discussion. Documents associated
with the natural gas distribution line projects can be viewed on the PSC’s Electronic Regulatory
Filing System at http://psc.wi.gov/. Type case numbers 6690-CG-160, 5-CG-103 and 6650-CG-
