PSC approves MGE ‘Top of Iowa’ wind farm

The state’s Public Service Commission today approved construction of Madison Gas and Electric’s “Top of Iowa Wind Farm” in northern Iowa. It will have 18 turbines capable of producing about 30 megawatts of power.

PSC Chairman Dan Ebert said approval of the wind farm brings Wisconsin another step closer to meeting the state’s goal of producing 25 percent of its energy from renewable energy sources by the year 2025.

“This project is consistent with the state’s commitment to rely more on renewable energy resources and fighting the effects of global warming,” Ebert said. “Today’s decision brings the state’s total wind generation to over 500 megawatts. It simply makes both economic and environmental sense for Wisconsin.” See release at http://www.wisbusiness.com/index.iml?Article=97112
