New Wisconsin Biodiesel Plant Breaks Ground

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA) congratulated North Prairie Productions, LLC, on the ground-breaking of a new biodiesel plant today in Evansville, Wisconsin.

“The construction of North Prairie’s biodiesel plant is a great step forward for the Bio Industry in Wisconsin,” said Joshua Morby, Executive Director of the WBIA.  “Biodiesel provides a clean, renewable alternative to standard diesel that will help reduce our dependence on foreign oil and provide a boost to Wisconsin’s agricultural communities.”

Several members of the WBIA are also in the development stages of biodiesel production in Wisconsin.  Sanimax, a founding member, has completed construction on a 20 million gallon biodiesel plant in De Forest.  The plant, which is the first large-scale biodiesel facility in Wisconsin, is set to begin production early this spring.  In addition, Utica Energy, also a founding member, is in the process of adding biodiesel capabilities to their ethanol plant in Johnson Creek, and BEST Energies is currently constructing an 8 million gallon biodiesel plant in Cashton.

The North Prairie plant, which will be the largest biodiesel plant in Wisconsin when it is completed, has a production capacity of 45 million gallons a year.  The plant will use soy oil as the main input for conversion to biodiesel.

“The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance congratulates North Prairie Productions on their new plant, and looks forward to their contribution to Wisconsin’s Bio Industry in the near future,” Morby said.
