Midwest Airlines’ 50-Seat Regional Jet Program Takes to the Skies

Midwest Airlines (AMEX:MEH) today continued the rollout of its 2007 strategic plan with the launch of service aboard 50-seat regional jets between Milwaukee and Columbus, Ohio and on select flights between Milwaukee and both Minneapolis/St. Paul and Philadelphia. Flying as Midwest Connect and operated by SkyWest Airlines, Inc., the 50-seat Canadair regional jets feature Midwest’s brown leather seats, buy-onboard Best Care Cuisine meals and popular baked-onboard chocolate chip cookies.

Earlier this year, Midwest announced it was partnering with SkyWest to operate a minimum of 15 and up to 25 50-seat regional jets during a five-year term. Under the agreement, the St. George, Utah-based airline provides aircraft, flight crews and maintenance services for the 50-seat aircraft. Midwest Airlines oversees route planning, scheduling, marketing and sales for the new flights.

“The Midwest and SkyWest teams have been working diligently for months in eager anticipation of this day. Today’s launch of the Midwest Connect 50-seat jet service is just the beginning of our efforts to improve service across our network and ‘right size’ Midwest Airlines in order to enhance our financial performance,” said Scott R. Dickson, Midwest Airlines senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “These jets play a key role in helping us expand our reach into new markets, upgrade certain markets to larger aircraft and to ultimately add more flights in key markets.”

According to Dickson, Midwest’s strategic plan includes the addition of six new destinations as well as the addition of as many as 12 new routes, leading to a 21% increase in capacity in 2007. Midwest has already announced more than 30 service improvements for 2007 including numerous enhancements involving the 50-seat regional jets. The 50-seat jets will also be used to launch new service between Kansas City and Columbus and upgrade service on three of four daily flights between Milwaukee and Pittsburgh starting May 1. The 50-seat jets will further be used to launch new service between Milwaukee and Raleigh/Durham, N.C. and upgrade service on all flights between Milwaukee and Baltimore/Washington starting June 1. Dickson added that additional announcements about further 50-seat jet deployments are expected to be made in upcoming weeks.

Midwest Airlines features jet service throughout the United States, including Milwaukee’s most daily nonstop flights and best schedule to major destinations. Catering to business travelers and discerning leisure travelers, the airline earned its reputation as “The best care in the air” by providing passengers with impeccable service and onboard amenities at competitive fares. Both Skyway Airlines, Inc. — a wholly owned subsidiary of Midwest Airlines — and SkyWest Airlines operate as Midwest Connect and offer service to and connections through Midwest Airlines’ hubs. Together, the airlines offer service to 50 cities. More information is available at http://www.midwestairlines.com/ .
