PEWAUKEE, Wis., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Wisconsin Credit Union League, the trade association representing 260 member-owned financial institutions in the state, is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) of the September 26 kidnapping of a Racine credit union employee and her son and a related robbery of the institution.
“Someone out there has information that can bring to justice whoever is responsible for this crime,” said League President & CEO Brett Thompson. “Our hope is that the reward will motivate them to do the right thing and come forward,” he said.
Thompson applauded a similar offer by the Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) this week.
“The WBA’s offer acknowledges that, as financial institutions, we’re all vulnerable when it comes to security,” Thompson said. “But we’ll do whatever we can to stop these criminals and reassure the members of credit unions and the customers of banks that their safety is paramount.”
Thompson also reassures consumers that despite thieves’ efforts, keeping money in a federally insured account remains the safest option available.
“Not one penny of federally insured funds has ever been lost by a credit union member,” he notes. The National Credit Union Administration insures credit union deposits up to $100,000.
